It’s You, Not The Money

Technology Concepts 2

I wanted to comment on a thought I hear expressed from time to time, in fact I’m involved in a little debate about it at work right now. Well, not right now exactly…I’m at home right now. But currently. The debate revolves around a poetic idea that concludes “…Wisdom is better than silver and gold”, like you have to choose one over the other. I’m here to tell you that you don’t…

The only thing that determines your level of wisdom is your dedication to accumulating and applying it. It is not enhanced by suffering, letting your bills stack up cuz you can’t pay them, eating Kraft Dinner more often than you want to or living like a hermit because you can’t afford to go out. In fact, the only thing likely to be enhanced by living that life is your sense of bitterness.

My dictionary defines ‘wisdom’ as “The ability to use knowledge; sound judgement”, two ingredients that are vital to achieving any kind of success in anything. Rather than looking at wisdom and wealth as an either/or thing, you’ll be better off seeing them as going hand in hand.

While we’re at it, let’s talk about a second, even more ridiculous notion that says “People who have lots of money are mean, and I don’t want to be mean, so I don’t want to have lots of money”. Some people are good and decent, others are mean and rotten. It’s them. It’s not the money. So quit making excuses for your lack of ambition. I’m not saying everybody should care about or want to make money, that’s up to you – just like your disposition. But at least stop with the platitudes!

  1. Bill,

Excellent post! The results which we obtain in life are a product of what we choose to think about. This includes the amount of money which we decide to accumulate. Most people think that outside influences determine the amount of money that they receive. This is false.

If we choose to take responsibility for our thoughts and feelings than we can obtain whatever results which we choose.

It always starts and ends with us. We alone can build our lives to order if we want to.

Thanks for sharing your insight :)
