Concentration And Focus
As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve been working hard on a website I started around this time last year. It’s gone through a few incarnations since its birth; this is phase 3. I guess what I’m doing now could be called a frame-up restoration, since there’s very little left of phase 2.
Anyway, one the reasons it’s taken so long is that I have “scrambled thinking” issues. I know what needs to be done to complete each part of the job, but I jump around a lot. People talk about “laser-like” focus…mine’s more like a shotgun, and I never know what it’s going to hit. So, I end up with a lot of half-done things waiting to be finished.
This little shortcoming inspired me to go looking for tips on focus and concentration, and in doing so I found this. It’s totally different than what I thought I was looking for but it has a nice ring to it, so I’ll pass it along…
“F” is for Faith. Faith in yourself and your ability to get the job done. Faith in the value of your project, and in the belief that what you’re doing now will get you closer to where you want to end up.
“O” is for Openness. Openness to challenges, to changes, to new approaches and adjustments that may be required. Openness to everything that comes along, with the knowledge that it’s all part of the process and doesn’t need to cause undo concern.
“C” is for Celebration. Celebrate the successes along the way, no matter how small they may seem, and celebrate the lessons in the challenges you’ve overcome.
“U” is for Understanding. Understanding the impact each step you take has on your ultimate result, and understanding why these small things are worth doing well, no matter how long they take.
“S” is for Successes. Big ones, small ones…they’re all significant, and they all deserve to be relished. So don’t take any of them for granted. Instead, plan another celebration! You’re getting there.
