Let Your Imagination Guide Your Life!

Would you say you live your life according to your experience, or your imagination?  Let me explain the question…

A lot of people judge themselves by what their history tells them they’re capable of doing, or having, or being.  They think that what they’ve done in the past is the most they can hope to achieve in the future.  And if they’ve failed to do something successfully in the past, they will often assume they’ll never be able to get it right.

If you’re thinking this way, then your history controls your present and future rather than staying behind you, where it belongs.  The past is now a barrier that’s preventing you from realizing your true potential.

Frequently, more successful people live their lives based on what their imagination tells them can be done.  They dream bigger and they believe in those dreams.  They are confident that they can (and will) fulfill them too.  Consequently there are far fewer limits to what they can accomplish – they aren’t letting their histories create limits for them!

They’re allowing the beauty and power of their dreams to control their present and guide them into a bright future.  By the way, this is ONE reason the rich get richer, etc.

Stephen Covey has a great quote that says: “Live out of your imagination, not your history”.

Don’t allow your history to control your future.  Let your imagination be your guide and live your life by your own design.  See and feel your ideal life, and then embrace it.

Whether you like the fact or not, you’re writing your life’s script every day - so it should actually be yours!  And you should be living it that way each and every day.  Toward that end, here’s an exercise for you…

Get a pen and a piece of paper now and start designing your life.  Ya, you heard me…all by yourself!  Take a look at the spiritual, personal, social, career and physical sides of your life – plus any I’ve forgotten that are important to you – and think about how you’d like to live each one.

What would you most like to do, to express these sides of yourself?  Now, start doing that!  Small steps are acceptable, side-steps are probably inevitable, as long as they’re steps forward you’re on the right track.

When you let your imagination guide you like this, you’ll truly understand what the word FREEDOM means.
